Hey All, Louis has expressed that he is not yet ready for his debut. We apologize for the disappointing news. We are going to push visitation until Wednesday pending how he is feeling. Thank you so much for understanding. XO Jacki
Good Morning from sunny Provo, Utah! Lou's night was good. He rested well, as well as can be expected, and seems to be bouncing back from the initial chaos and settling in to the routine of tests, specialists, poking and prodding. (Forgive me if I repeat information as I am not re-reading previous posts but shooting from the hip). As ever, one step forward, two steps back. Louis has developed what looks like pre-pneumonia which we will be attacking with antibiotics. This adds a bit of challenge to his work to regain better lung function following the collapse of his left lung. For those of you who don't know Lou well, he has asthma (which makes what he does and how he does it all the more amazing to me) and is already prone to respiratory infections, so this is not all that surprising. One step forward, two steps back. Feels like we are dancing! He has been unable to eat anything and drinking has posed a challenge due to swallowing difficulty from, what I assume, is the...
Saturday 2/22/20 Hi All, Lou continues to heal in small increments. He rested a lot today and with any luck that will continue. Other than the obvious neck and back injuries, he is battling... The scalp wound; which today was unbandaged for the first time and cleaned, assessed and re-dressed. The report was good, signs of healing with small pockets of fluid and perhaps air due to the fact that the usual layers of tissue which attach the skin to the head are no longer there and a space exists. The doctor believes that both the fluid and the air will be reabsorbed into the body in time. Lungs; during the accident Lou broke several ribs and suffered a collapsed lung. Yesterday he was fighting a consistent challenge of  coughing up and expelling a significant amount of mucus build up. With help he was able get a good amount out and this provided relief. All in all the really amazing staff at Utah Valley are continually impressed with his response to treatment. Visiting - Ove...
Hi everyone, This is Fynn. Louis' condition is much the same as yesterday. He's still in pain, but he continues to be as strong and snarky as ever. As a lot of you who've been on this page know, our friend Stacy Bare was kind enough to put together a GoFundMe to help cover some of the expenses. All of us are shocked and overcome with gratitude at its reception within the community. So far, it's been up for a day and has already raised $29,085. Again, we are beyond grateful at the show of support and love. If you have a moment and would like to give the page a share, I'll put the link at the end of this post. Much love and thank you all again. https://www.gofundme.com/f/love-on-louis-love-on-the-wasatch
Good Morning All. Jacki here. A quick update. The last 24 hours have been a bit of whirlwind. Lou has over achieved at every turn...go figure. I will ask Erme Catino to write up the event and instead will focus on the here and now. A quick overview of the injuries. As Fynn posted yesterday Louis had two fractures in his back, 1 in the cervical region and the other the Thoracic. Around T5 Lou's spinal cord was damaged and has resulted in current paralysis from mid chest down. In addition, the majority of his scalp was torn off presumably by impact with a tree. He was brought to Utah Valley Hospital and spent approximately 8 hours in surgery from Wednesday night to Thursday morning. During the procedure the surgeon fused C6 through T7 and reattached his scalp. The surgery went very well and according to plan with no surprises, great news considering the extent of the injuries. After coming out of the anesthesia (thank God for spell check) and having the intubation tube remove...
Thank you to everyone for your continued support and concern. We're starting this page just so we have a central location where we can keep everyone informed about Louis. As many of you know, Louis was in skiing accident at about 5:30 last night. The fall fractured his spine in two places and severed his spinal column in his lower back. He went into surgery at around midnight and just got out around 8 am. His status is stable and we're hoping for a safe and speedy recovery. The doctors are currently working on getting him to a pain-free, conscious state. They performed 3 procedures throughout the night that resulted in the fusing of his c6 to t7 vertebrae. These appear to have been successful. Again, thank you all for your love and support and we'll try the best we can to keep everyone up to date with any changes.
