Huge Smile!! I am incredibly happy to fill you all in on the last 24 hours. Louis really turned a corner last night. Due in equal parts to his focus & desire, the amazing care he is receiving and the love of his family. His temperature regulation is improving, the pneumonia is under control and the chest tube came out this morning. In addition, the head dressing came off and his swallowing reflex improved enough for him to actually drink water. This may not sound like much but when denied for 5 days it becomes nectar. The narcotic based pain killers have been reduced and Lou is much more coherent and conversant, he actually exhausted the physical therapists. We hooked up with the University of Utah Spinal Rehab and think that there is good chance to move North on Thursday... Next steps; Secure stabilization and move on Thursday (fingers crossed!), followed by 3-4 weeks of intensive rehab including physical and occupational. I feel like we have an amazing trauma team here ...
